For many years my mother laughingly referred to me as a "kitchen witch". From the moment I discovered herbs, while I loved their fragrance and culinary use, it was their medicinal value that I found most enchanting. I just loved to ply my family and friends with teas and tonics. I always hated to see anyone suffer. So it was wonderful to be able to offer simple and homegrown remedies that were truly effective. The most amazing thing was I could grow this abundance right in my own back yard! I discovered herbs that could relieve the itch of bug bites, soothe away the cramps of colitis, disapate anxiety-induced insomnia, calm a sore throat and reduce the inflammation of a toothache.
Once, within hours after using a folk remedy I suggested, a woman who had suffered for three months with laryingitis, unable to talk, regained her lost voice. She had been to the doctor time and time again, but ultimately it was a 'simple' that did the trick.
The thought that kept coming back time and time again was how in the world could we have lost such important and empowering knowledge?
Not everything requires doctor visits and drugstore medicines. So much is free and right outside our back doors. When did we come to believe herbalism, just one natural medical alternative, as something primitive, superstitious or at best, simply not as powerful as our western medicine? The answer to that is a complex one, but the more I studied the more I realized that somewhere along the way we gave up responsibility for our own health and along with it, gave away the power to be our first and foremost experts on our own bodies.
It is important for me to convey to you that I do believe quite firmly in allopathic (western) medicine. I feel it has an important place in healing, especially as we face increasing and dramatic health stressors - cancers, nutritionally deficient and chemically-sodden foods, high stress and a polluted environment we can no longer escape. And I prefer the word "holistic" and "complimentary" to "alternative" when describing the work I do with flower essences.
Flower essences are often used as the primary source of therapy for emotional and spiritual issues, but they do not normally replace other therapies when working with physical ailments. Instead they work as a complement to traditional treatments -supporting, strengthening and fortifying growth and the healing processes. Healing progresses faster, and there is less likelihood of reoccurrence, when the underlying vibrational imbalance is addressed along with its outward manifestations.
What I am passionately concerned about is the complete dismissal of the spirit and emotional needs within our current western medical system and its culture. I feel the mind-body-spirit perspective is crucial to effective medical care.
When you come to me for a consultation, I am looking at the whole person and the whole picture. My purpose is to weave together a holistic approach that will work for you. I am not a licensed medical doctor and I will encourage you, especially when facing serious illness to avail yourself of all that modern medicine offers. My specific focus is getting your electrical system back in balance - the foundation of your body, mind, emotions and spirit, using flower essence and recommendations for complimentary therapies, so that you have access to, and can activate, your own powerful healing energy.
As with herbalists there isn't any certifying governing body for flower essence practitioners. I have studied under Mellisa Dormoy and also work with other practitioners in the field to advance my studies. Under the guidance of these wonderful women I have learned to listen to the plants, their wisdom, and sharpen my intuitive and healing abilities. I also continue to advance my studies in natural health and herbalism as I am committed to bringing the fullest and best information available to my clients.
